What is Brain Health Awareness Month?

June is Brain Health Awareness Month. So, what exactly is Brain Health Awareness month, and how does that impact us? Let’s take a look!

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, Brain Health Awareness Month exists to amplify the reality of those whose lives are touched by Alzheimer’s or dementia in some way. Brain Health Awareness month serves as an opportunity to share your story, raise funds, and share resources, all while advocating for better resources and research to help the millions of families impacted by dementia diseases worldwide.

As a senior living community, we are very passionate about advocacy and education surrounding Alzheimer’s and dementia. In some way or other, we all have a personal connection to dementia. That’s why we’ll be raising our voices this June to share valuable resources with our communities and answer tough questions, providing invaluable resources and perspectives as you navigate your own journey impacted by Alzheimer’s and dementia.

This month, we’ll cover a variety of topics including information about some of the more common types of dementia, creative ways to engage with your loved one, Q&A with a memory care professional, and more. We’ll end the month with a look at Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), aligning with National PTSD Awareness Day which takes place towards the end of June.

While we know that conversation about Alzheimer’s and dementia is difficult, and often accompanied by feelings of grief and overwhelm, we believe in creating space to house these complicated topics, holding each one with empathy and compassion.

Each week, we’ll explore a different topic, so be sure to check back frequently!
